Confused.com offers tips to beat rising utility bills

Confused.com has highlighted several measures that people can undertake in order to battle the cost of their energy supply.

Gareth Kloet, head of energy at the comparison site, made his comments following the release of a report by Ofgem which made a prediction of how much the cost of utility bills will rise by in the future.

It estimated that they will increase by between 14 and 60 per cent by the middle of the next decade.

Mr Kloet recommended that energy customers take the time out to shop around for the best deal, as well as switching to direct debit payment and making sure to check out online tariffs.

He added: "With these things in mind, apathy is not an option because stopping prices from rising at all would be the equivalent of trying to hold back the tide."

The report by Ofgem released last week advised that the UK may need to change the way in which it generates and consumes power, with wind possibly playing a bigger role in production.
