Santander fixed-rate bond unveiled

A new two-year fixed-rate bond from Santander has been released with a gross interest rate of four per cent.

The group has recommended this product for people who want to leave their investment untouched for the full term, as there will be charges for early withdrawal.

Consumers can apply for the deal at branches of the bank's UK brands - Bradford & Bingley, Alliance & Leicester and Abbey.

People can also apply by visiting the Abbey or Bradford & Bingley websites.

The four per cent gross interest rate works out as 3.2 per cent net, unless investors want a monthly rate, in which case, customers will receive 3.93 per cent gross or 3.14 per cent net interest.

Balances of between £10,000 and £2 million are accepted.

Earlier this month, Santander launched a range of three to five-year guaranteed investment products, which are also available through its UK brands and offer up to 11 per cent interest if people opt for a stockmarket plan.
