Saga reveals Brits' fear of the dark

British motorists have a fear of driving at night, according to a survey from Saga Motor Insurance.

Now the clocks have gone back and the evenings are getting darker, getting behind the wheel at night time will become a more common occurrence for motorists in the UK.

However, research by Saga Motor Insurance has found 25 per cent of drivers are concerned about safety when it comes to heading out in their cars once the sun has gone down.

Of these, 17 per cent would turn to online shopping to avoid dark roads and 12 per cent would be tempted to call a taxi.

According to Saga Motor Insurance, more claims are received by the company during the winter than any other period of the year, highlighting its importance.

Driving expert gives some advice on how to stay safe on the dark roads this season. It reminds drivers to switch to a dipped beam when other traffic is around to avoid dazzling other motorists. Headlights should also be used, even when it has not gone completely dark.
