Discarded mobiles harmful to environment, says moneysupermarket.com

Mobile phones that are thrown into the bin and not properly recycled could be causing hazardous waste to accumulate in landfill sites.

This is according to moneysupermarket.com, which found that eight per cent of Brits admitted to being too lazy to recycle their unused handsets.

However, by disposing of old phones properly, people could be earning themselves cash in the process.

Manager of mobile phones at moneysupermarket.com James Parker said that Britons' desire to have the most up-to-date gadgets has led to households accumulating old phones.

"Those people that have thrown away the 5.25 million phones have effectively thrown away £150 million that would have been paid out if the phones had been recycled," he continued.

National Recycle your Phone Week will takes place this week (October 26th to 30th).

This will be the second year that moneysupermarket.com has run the initiative and there are many different ways in which you can recycle your handset in exchange for money.
