Sainsbury's Finance notes increase in personal loans

Sainsbury's Finance has highlighted growth in the number of personal loans being taken out since the start of the government's car scrappage scheme.

Steven Baillie, head of loans at the financial services provider, pointed out that it is a good sign for the vehicle industry to have so many people borrowing money to buy a motor.

Research by Sainsbury's Finance showed that £61.2 million worth of loans has been taken out per month to buy cars since the beginning of the scrappage scheme.

He said: "People considering buying a car, however, must remember to shop around for the best value loan they can find if this is how they decide to fund their vehicle."

Mr Baillie claimed that it can make a big difference to the amount that borrowers end up paying back each month.

This month, Sainsbury's Finance announced that it will be awarding extra Nectar points over the next two years for people who take out the organisation's financial products.
