Zurich advises caution on dark roads

Zurich has called for drivers to exercise caution on the roads now that daylight saving time has begun.

Mike Quinton, a spokesperson for the company's connect division, made his comments following research by the firm, which indicated that the number of car insurance claims increases during the week after daylight saving every year.

The organisation found that there is on average 11 per cent more claims during this time.

Zurich recommends checking that all lights and windows are clean, so as to avoid accidents.

Mr Quinton said: "Autumnal weather is often wet and windy, and the risk of having an accident on the road is significantly increased."

He pointed out that people may be used to driving certain routes in the light and then find it hard to adjust to the dark.

Daylight saving time began early on Sunday October 25th and will last until March 28th next year, when the clocks will go forward one hour.
