'Emotional investments' hard to value

Investing in art and rare stamps is becoming more popular, but are harder to accurately value than traditional investments, according to one finance expert.

Adrian Lowcock, senior investment advisor with Bestinvest, said 'emotional investments' are "bizarre" as the point of investments is to "leave emotion at the door" and make the best financial choices.

It was usually emotion that caused people to lose money when they sell their property, he added, as they buy and sell when the time is not right.

As more people turn to putting their money into fine wines and musical instruments, instead of a savings account, Mr Lowcock said: "Valuing some of these things accurately is going to be very, very hard."

Last month, Emotional Assets Management and Research launched Emotion Assets Fund I, which will allow investors to achieve growth through investment across fifteen sectors, including jewellery and rare manuscripts. The goal is to give a return of 15 per cent a year, as well maintaining the original capital.
