Andrew Holland, head of road safety at the motoring organisation, thinks that tackling the way young people approach motoring when they are too young to get behind the wheel is the best method of presenting reckless behaviour later.
The goal is to convince people that cars are a convenient method of transportation and not something to be used to show off, he added.
Motorists who receive six penalty points in their first two years on the road are automatically given a driving ban. However, those who have been driving for over two years can have up to 12 points before they are banned.
Mr Holland said: "That is something which should focus your mind on not driving dangerously or carelessly because that will get you six points in a single go if you do it badly enough."
His comment follows a report by the Co-operative Insurance that revealed 30 per cent of young motorists admitted to driving recklessly, despite being aware of the potential consequences.
