Online Christmas shoppers 'save up to £383'

Shopping for your presents online instead of on the high street can net big savings, according to Which?.

The financial advice group found discounts could be enjoyed across a range of products, from electronics to aftershave.

A Samsung TV was bought for £69 less over the net than in store, while purchasing Dior's J'Adore perfume from the internet - rather than a shop - could save £7.

However, the supermarkets trumped the web for festive savings on CDs, DVDs and books. Jamie's America cookbook was found for £10 in Tesco, a £3 saving on the cheapest price online from Play.com.

Melanie Dowding, deputy editor of Which? Online, said: "If you're counting the pennies this Christmas, you're usually better off staying home and shopping online."

The UK Payments Administration has reminded shoppers who choose to get their presents from the comfort of their own home this year to ensure they guard themselves against card fraud.

Registering cards with Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode and logging out after purchases have been completed are suggested methods to protect credit cards.
