Think of charity in your Christmas finances, CAF urges

Consumers have been urged to think of others when it comes to their finances in the run-up to Christmas.

The Charities Age Foundation (CAF) stated that such organisations need more help than ever this year, especially when the current financial landscape is taken into consideration.

In a statement, the body explained research indicates that there has been an 11 per cent reduction in total giving by individuals in 2009.

This represents a fall of £1.3 billion in the amount of money that has been given to charity in the last 12 months.

CAF, which has been working with charities for more than 30 years, explained that there are many simple ways to help others, despite the recession.

These include ticking the Gift Aid box when making a donation to charity - as this will increase the amount of money given to such a body - and purchasing items like Christmas presents from charity shops, where money generated is donated to good causes.
