American Express launches new credit card

American Express has made a new card available which gives consumers rewards in the form of vouchers.

Redeemable at a range of shops, the points for the vouchers are earned in accordance to where consumers shop the most.

For every pound spent at a major supermarket, three points are earned. In a partner department store, two points are added for each pound spent. And, in most other shops, one point is collected for every £1.

The minimum point redemption is 5,000, which results in a £25 voucher, that can be used in stores as diverse as Homebase, HMV and Tiffany & Co.

Katrina Cliffe, head of consumer cards at American Express said: "The 3-2-1 point earning rate means our credit card reward programme is one of the most generous on the market."

Earlier in the year, the credit company advised consumers who use a debit card to switch to a cash-back or rewards card, as they are losing out on the money they could be losing out on hundreds of pounds of cash.
