Energy bill increases 'necessary to improve network'

price of electricity bills needs to rise for companies to have the cash to improve the network, according to Confused.com.

Gareth Kloet, spokesperson for Confused.com, said that investments into the system have to be made, but it is inevitable that these costs will be felt by customers on their energy bills.

"Without investment, planned and unplanned power interruptions will increase and customers will be left wanting," Mr Kloet explained.

He added that investments have to be made to ensure that the vital service reaches all home and business, with price increases being an inevitable consequence of increasing consumer demand.

However, consumers can avoid seeing their bills increasing too much by shopping around for the best tariff available to them.

The comments were made following the news that Ofgem anticipates an increase on the annual electricity bill of around £4.30 per household, in return for a better service and a greener electricity supply. New regulations on how the power industry is run will see more local power stations being built.
