Nationwide: Be wary of fraud this Christmas

Nationwide has warned credit card users to be on guard against fraud this festive season.

In order to escape having your Christmas spoilt by fraud, the building society has offered some advice.

Keeping pin numbers separate from cards is essential to prevent anyone from easily using lost or stolen plastic.

Additionally, keeping a close watch on bank statements to ensure that only transactions that the consumer themselves has made are taking place is important.

Furthermore, if there are concerns that the card has been used fraudulently, it must be reported to the provider as soon as possible.

Pete Corrie, Nationwide's head of fraud prevention said: "We have a range of robust systems in place to protect Nationwide members from fraud. But, each customer also needs to take responsibility for protecting their personal details.

Consumers who hold a card with the building society have the chance of winning tickets to next year's World Cup in South Africa. In order to enter, cardholders must make nine transactions before December 31st.
