Consumers cut back on Christmas cards, says uSwitch.com

Fewer people than ever are deciding to send Christmas cards this year, according to research by uSwitch.com.

As many as 15 per cent of the people surveyed are decided not to send cards to their loved ones over the festive period due to the postal strikes earlier in the year.

However, even with the threat of postal strikes, 58 per cent of people are still planning on posting out some festive cheer.

But, even as the numbers sending cards begins to drop, just 32 per cent of consumers think that sending a text or an e-card is an acceptable alternative to real cards.

Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said: "We have a long history of sending cards in this country and the threat of strikes was potentially going to deliver it a hammer blow."

It was reported earlier this month by uSwitch.com that 56 per cent of people were planning to spend less on presents this Christmas.
