AA: Take care with cars in snowy conditions

Motorist need to ensure their vehicle is secure in the cold weather, if they are on the roads or not, according to the AA.

With insurance policyholders claiming for accidents involving hitting other vehicles or roadside furniture, such as phone boxes and lamp posts, motorist also have to make sure their car is securely parked.

On December 18th, the AA handled over 100 claims for snow and ice-related accidents before the afternoon.

Consumers have claimed on their insurance after skidding cars crashed into their own parked vehicles. Cars that have been kept off-road have also been damaged, with drivers losing control of their cars, which have then hit vehicles that were parked in driveways.

Motorists who are planning to head out onto the roads during bad weather were advised to keep their speed down and travel in a high gear. Keeping plenty of space between their car and the vehicle in front is important to account for delayed stoppage times.
