uSwitch.com: Compare energy prices to find the best deal

Consumers should compare the different energy prices on the market to make sure they are getting the best deal, according to uSwitch.com.

Householders now face a bill of up to £1,239, an increase of 36 per cent on the beginning of 2008.

Bills can be easily cut, however, by making a few simple changes, such as changing payment methods to direct debit. In addition, buying gas and electricity from the same provider can make bills cheaper, as there are often offers for customers with dual deals.

Will Marples, energy expert at uSwitch.com, said: "Online energy plans are around £300 a year cheaper than standard energy plans - this is a very simple saving for any household to make."

It was reported earlier this month by uSwith.com that changing from the Websaver 5 deal from British Gas to the new Sign Online 17 offer by npower could save a further £22 a year on gas and electricity bills.
