Sainsbury's: Christmas Eve spending to top £1bn

It is estimated that £1.37 billion will be forked out by shoppers in the 24 hours before Christmas Day.
This works out to around seven per cent of all Christmas spending taking place the day before.
Around 18 per cent of this, about £246 million, will be spend using credit cards, with 2.1 million people planning to use their plastic to fund their final Christmas shopping trips.
Stuart McKeggie, head of Sainsbury's Credit Cards said: "Many shoppers intend to use credit cards for their Christmas shopping, which can be a safe and convenient way to shop and can provide great rewards for using them if you choose the right one."
A record amount has been estimated by the supermarket bank to be paid out on by ATM machines this year, with £10.6 billion thought to be given out over the course of December.
