Workers 'want time off for Christmas'

Employees want nothing more than some time off over Christmas, as many people are set to be in work over the festive period, according to the Post Office.

The Post Office Travel Services' Holiday Entitlement Index has found that 41 per cent of workers will be at their jobs at some point over the festive period.

It appears that young people will be the most affected, with 50 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds missing out of festive fun while in work.

But for 33 per cent of people, the reason they are stuck in the office at Christmas is because they failed to organise taking leave in time, or colleagues got in there before them.

Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Services, said: It seems that many people will be missing out on festivities by spending some of the Christmas and new year holidays at work.

With expensive gifts at home over Christmas, it can be important to make sure that the contents insurance covers their value. The Post Office is offering an additonal ten per cent cover for all their customers who have their insurance with them this December.
