Brits 'expect to remain in recession'

British adults do not expect the economy to come out of recession next year, according to research by Gocompare.com.

Of those questioned, 29 per cent thought that the whole of the new year will be spent in recession.

A further 52.2 per cent believe that the UK will spend most of next year still under the cloud of economic decline.

It was just 18.6 per cent of people who feel that the worst is now over and Britain will return to growth during the beginning of 2010.

Lee Griffin, business development director of Gocompare.com, said: "Whilst the government would like us to spend our way out of recession we would stress that it's important for consumers to spend wisely and to compare their purchases to ensure they are getting the best deal."

It is not just the government who are making plans for their finances, according to the price comparison site. A recent survey revealed that 37 per cent of people were looking to sort out their money problems in 2010.
