London property values 'expected to rise'

Property values in London are likely to rise over the coming year, it has been asserted.

Naomi Heaton, chief executive of London Central Portfolio, said the capital's residential property market started its recovery in the second quarter of 2009.

She noted that values are likely to rise this year as prices are still below anticipated levels.

"Despite subsequent market falls, the stimulus of the low cost of sterling, cheap debt and the capital's increasing appeal should continue to fuel the recovery," Ms Heaton commented.

She added that if prices follow long-term trends and double again by 2016, this will represent an annual average growth of 11.5 per cent.

Research published earlier this month by Zoopla.co.uk revealed that many Britons are expecting the value of their property to increase this year.

The study found that 81 per cent of homeowners are anticipating a rise in values.
