'Save money' with online energy tariffs

Consumers who choose to get a tariff that is only available via the internet can enjoy big savings when compared to those who go for a more traditional method, according to moneysupermarket.com.
The price comparison site estimated that the cold snap could end up costing a household as much as £493 in their next quarterly bill if they pay by cheque.
However, the same level of energy consumption by someone who holds an online billing system that is paid through direct debit will see them paying £299 less a year.
Scott Byrom, utilities manager at moneysupermarket.com said: "I advise any customers languishing on their provider's standard deal, whether worried about post-new year bills or not, to swap to a monthly direct debit scheme and manage their account online."
Earlier this month, moneysupermaket.com announced that it approved of the government's plans to introduce a scrappage scheme for old boilers.
