Supermarket credit cards top consumer poll

Credit cards from supermarkets have come out as the favourites for consumers, ahead of those offered by high street banks.

The poll, carried out by uSwitch.com, found that Tesco and Marks and Spencer cards came out as joint favourites, with 89.4 per cent of customers stating that they are satisfied with the service they have received.

In second place was American Express, with 88.6 per cent of users happy with their plastic.

The high street banks propped up the bottom of the table, with Lloyds TSB, Halifax and NatWest all receiving poor reviews from their clients.

Louise Bond, personal finance expert at the price comparison site, said: "By not taking the time to research the best deals available, millions of consumers are letting their providers get away with levels of customer service and value that are far from competitive."

In October, uSwitch.com commented on the new Progress card from Capital One, explaining that it is good for consumers who have a less than perfect credit rating.
