Enquiries for 4x4 insurance increase

The number of enquiries into insurance for 4x4 vehicles has gone up during the recent bad weather, moneysupermarket.com has reported.

These statistics seem to suggest that many people are thinking of changing to a larger vehicle in case more winters are likely to be blighted by such bad weather in the future.

Since January 5th, the number of searches for 4x4 insurance has shot up by 42 per cent compared to the same period in December.

Steve Sweeney, head of car insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said that while many people may be finding that their current vehicle is not coping well in the snow, staying off the roads altogether is the best way to remain safe during bad weather.

"Having a more able vehicle for driving in the snow is not a guarantee that your journey would be any safer or less eventful when faced with such unpredictable driving conditions," he stated.

Earlier this month, the price comparison site had advised drivers to check their vehicles before they embarked on a journey to lower the risk that they will break down.
