Building societies offer 'most consistent accounts'

Savers looking for the best level of stability available for their bank accounts should consider accounts that are offered by building societies.

Research carried out by Moneyfacts.co.uk found that building societies offer 72.5 per cent of the most consistent accounts available in the UK.

Over the past 18 months, the Intelligent Finance isaver account was found to have given the greatest interest, with £56.15 being earned on an investment of £1,000 in the year to January 1st.

Louise Holmes, spokesperson at Moneyfacts.co.uk, commented: "Savers would rather invest their money in an account that continues to pay a competitive rate of interest, rather than one where top rates are paid one minute and are gone the next."

Moneyfacts.co.uk has also recently stated that it will be increasingly difficult for savers to get a good return on their money as the Consumer Price Index has risen sharply to 2.9 per cent.
