Buying a home 'more stressful' experience

Moving to a new home has been the most stressful experience for many British adults, according to the results of a new poll.

For 24 per cent of respondents to an unbiased.co.uk survey, changing address had caused them the most anxiety out of a range of experiences.

Of this number, 35 per cent felt that finding their new home had been the most stressful part, with 12 per cent enjoying getting and arranging a mortgage the least.

In comparison, 14 per cent felt that starting a new job was the thing that put them under the most strain.

Meanwhile, 13 per cent felt that the life-changing experience of having children has made them feel the most pressure.

Karen Barrett, chief executive of unbiased.co.uk, said: "Buying a home is probably the most expensive decision you will ever make and involves lots of complicated stages."

Perhaps it is unsurprising then that increasing numbers of consumers are looking to rent their property, with the price comparison site estimating that 1.75 million more homeowners are looking to sell up and rent than there were twelve months ago.
