Investors 'not seeking money advice'

The majority of individuals do not obtain advice before deciding where to invest their money, new research has revealed.

According to the Fair Investment Company, just 34 per cent of people seek any form of financial guidance before they begin an investment.

Giving a possible explanation for the trend, George Ladds, head of investment and pension research at the firm, said that the number of products available online these days means that people are able to carry out research for themselves and "cut out the middle man".

He also stated that "many feel let down by advisors who have not provided an adequate service" in the past and have a desire "to take matters into their own hands".

The Fair Investment Company offers an array of free financial documents designed to help consumers make informed decisions.

In November, it launched a free Isa guide with the goal of enabling people to get the most out of the savings products.
