Broadband customers 'wasting money' on their deals

Broadband customers may be wasting their money on unlimited download limits that they do not use.

According to research by broadbandchoices.co.uk, half of the consumers who are paying for this extended capacity are not using it.

While these packages seem appealing, for many consumers it would be better to choose an option with a lower download limit that will keep them within their current boundaries without charging them any extra.

It was found that around 53 per cent of users download 10GB or less a month, with 74 per cent using 20GB, both of which are considerably less than unlimited packages allow.

Michael Phillips, product director, Broadbandchoices.co.uk, said: "Our survey shows that the vast majority of broadband users spend less than two hours a week on each activity such as downloading music or watching video clips."

Broadbandchoices.co.uk recently picked out the new 40MB service from BT as being an attractive option to consumers who are looking for a fast internet connection.
