Legal & General increases life insurance cover

Legal & General has increased the immediate cover levels it provides for people who take out all types of life only cover.

Additionally, consumers who opt for term assurance with critical illness cover will also benefit from increased immediate cover levels of protection.

Immediate cover relates to when there is assumed risk for an applicant before they are underwritten. It is suitable for those who are in need of urgent protection.

The maximum sum now assured for life cover is £3 million, which is increased from the previous level of £2 million.

For individuals with critical illness business cover, the amount has increased by £0.5 million to £1.5 million.

Russ Whitworth, underwriting and claims director for protection at Legal & General, said: "By upping the maximum levels of immediate cover that we are prepared to give, we are being more generous and more competitive."

Last month, the maximum sum on the Group Income Protection Cover scheme was increased by the institution to £350,000, which was available to all new and switching schemes.
