Fraudsters phishing attacks 'more sophisticated'

The methods being used by fraudsters are growing in sophistication, an information security specialist has stated.

Alan Phillips, Chief Executive of 7Safe, said that there are some steps that consumers can take to make sure that they do not become a victim of a phishing scam.

As scams become more sophisticated it is not as easy as it once was to work out what is a legitimate website or email, Mr Phillips warned, but remembering to never give out personal information after receiving email requests from sources which claim to be banks is one easy way of tackling the issue.

Avoiding any links unless consumers can be absolutely certain that they are legitimate is also vital in preventing giving away information which could be used by fraudsters.

Phishing scams and malware is an increasing problem, as statistics from Network Box have shown. Almost 56 per cent of all malware sent by email is an attempted phishing scam.
