AA: Potholes lead to claims increase

The amount of people making claims after their cars were damaged by potholes has increased rapidly, according to the AA.

Following the recent bad weather, the AA made an appeal to the government to take action over making repairs to the country's roads.

However, many roads are still in a state of disrepair and the insurer has reported that it is receiving three times as many claims for damage caused by potholes as it did this time last year.

As well as looking for damage to the bodywork of the car, Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, warned drivers to be on the lookout for tyre problems.

"Damage may not be immediately obvious but watch for development of tell-tale bulges on the tyre walls, indicating serious internal damage," he stated.

The AA recently found that although more cars are being bought, motorists are spending less on their vehicles, with many stating that they are planning to take advantage of the recently extended car scrappage scheme.
