Two-thirds of women have lost jewellery

Women are being advised to think about getting insurance on their gems after research found that 63 per cent of women have lost a piece of jewellery.

Respondents in the poll by Sheila's Wheels also revealed that 20 per cent had been the victim of jewellery theft.

The insurer has offered tips to make sure that if any precious jewels do go missing there is cover in place to protect them.

Adding 'personal possession away from home' to household insurance means that items like rings and bracelets will be covered if they go missing.

However, remember that if you do have such cover in place it will not be necessary to take out a separate insurance policy offered by the jewellers.

Furthermore, keeping receipts and taking a close-up photograph of individual items will help if a claim for loss or theft needs to be made.

Consumers who already hold their insurance with Shelia's Wheels may be interested to hear the company now offers travel insurance, which includes special 'handbag on holiday' cover.
