Standard Life: Young people scared of the future

As many as 22 per cent of young people feel anxious about the future, according to new research from Standard Life.

Respondents aged between 28 and 40 years old in the survey carried out by the pensions provider confessed that they were uncertain about their futures, with eight per cent admitting that they were filled with fear about their old age.

However, many were realistic about planning their finances, with 36 per cent stating they knew they could not rely on the state to fund them in later life and 48 per cent thinking about making their own plans for retirement.

Mark Polson, head of customer management at Standard Life, said: "These are smart, educated, savvy people who know they are not doing what they should to secure their financial futures."

Standard Life also recently announced that a survey of pensions advisors stated that targeting a younger market was vital for them to remain in business.
