Brits snub Valentine's Day cards in favour of texts

People who are gearing themselves up for a romantic Valentine's weekend may be left disappointed if research by moneysupermarket.com is to be believed.

The price comparison site found that 16 per cent of people will be choosing to send their loved ones a message electronically.

But 17 per cent have stated that they will not be sending any sort of message at all as they do not like the idea of Valentine's Day.

Mike Wilson, manager of mobiles and broadband at moneysupermarket.com, thinks there could be an ulterior motive for sending a digital message.

"Sending a text, email or Facebook message makes for an easy way to tell someone you like them and it means senders do not have to deal with any embarrassing rejections face to face," he stated.

Some of those who are choosing not to send a text may change their minds if they realise they have spare messages on their tariffs this month.

The price comparison site recently found that as much as £13 billion is being wasted each year through people not using up all their allocated texts and minutes on their mobile phones.
