Switch fixed-price energy deals, says uSwitch.com

Householders who opted for a fixed energy plan should remember to change to another deal before it expires or they could face price hikes, according to uSwitch.com.

The website estimated that the cost of bills could rise by as much as £258 when six-month guaranteed plans come to an end.

With many set to finish next month, consumers who hold one of these products have been urged to look around for a new tariff now to beat the price hike.

Thomas Lyon, energy expert at uSwitch.com, said that while fixed plans are right for some people, the potential for further price cuts means that online energy plans could be the best deal, as many are already £300 a year cheaper than standard tariffs.

British Gas was named by uSwitch.com as being the cheapest energy provider at the start of the month, after the company announced it was cutting its gas prices by seven per cent.
