Leave fixed-rate tariffs, says confused.com

Consumers who are on a fixed-rate energy tariff that is due to end soon should begin looking around for a new deal, it has been suggested.

According to cofused.com, six tariffs from different providers are due to come to an end in the coming months, with some consumers having been on the same price plan since 2006.

Many of these deals came about during the price increases in 2008, but as online price wars have begun between the companies, the price comparison site believes it is the right time to move.

Gareth Kloet, head of utilities at confused.com, said: "The end of an existing fixed rate does not necessarily mean a bill increase if customers shop around for the best deals."

Many households may already be anticipating an expensive fuel bill this month, after it was found by confused.com that 73 per cent of people are more aware of how much they use following the cold snap.
