Sainsbury's: Motorists do not check weather before journey

Motorists are failing to take simple steps to ensure their safety on the roads, such as checking the weather forecast before they depart, it has been stated.

Sainsbury's Finance found that 33 per cent of drivers were not checking what the weather was going to be like before they began their journeys.

Furthermore, 27 per cent of drivers admitted that they do not take the time to properly clear their windscreens before they hit the road.

The insurance provider has warned that this attitude is putting them and other drivers at risk.

Ben Tyte, Sainsbury's car insurance manager, said: "Drivers should continue to take basic steps to ensure their own safety and that of other road users, especially while wintry conditions persist."

The firm also urged homeowners to be cautious in the bad weather, with claims for burst pipes reaching around 16,000 across the insurance industry at the beginning of the year.
