Aviva: Motorists admit to 'fronting' their insurance

As many as one in five motorists admit to 'fronting' on their car insurance, naming themselves as the main driver when in fact someone else is, according to research.

Aviva, in conjunction with the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB), found that 70 per cent of drivers do not understand what it means to front on an insurance policy, although there were some who admitted to deliberately doing it.

While 35 per cent of these drivers said that they did it as a loophole in the law, the truth is that they are breaking the law and could be invalidating their insurance should an accident occur.

Ashton West, chief executive of MIB, said that there is some confusion about how important it is to give adequate information on a policy, but that drivers need to ensure they are telling the truth.

Marks and Spencer Car Insurance recently found that many drivers may be putting themselves at risk when they get into a new car by not checking the manual first.
