'False economy' of fronting car insurance warning from esure

With one in ten drivers admitting that they think fronting is a legitimate way of getting a better deal on their car insurance, esure has issued a warning about this false economy.

Staff at the insurance firm are fully trained to look out for signs that fronting is taking place, such as when a young driver attempts to arrange insurance in their parent's name, where they are the named driver.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, said: "The simple rule is that if you're deliberately trying to give your insurer the impression of a low risk set of circumstances when you know that the truth is different, you are probably fronting."

He added that when a parent tries to pass on their no-claims discount to their child the insurer will consider this as a front and may declare the cover invalid.

Motorists looking to buy a new car when the number plates change to the new 2010 registration have been advised by esure to shop around and haggle over the price in order to get the best deal.
