Water bill prices 'to remain steady'

The average cost of water bills is to remain consistent over the next 12 months, it has been stated.

Studies by the Consumer Council for Water has found that although prices on average will remain the same, customers may personally experience an increase or a decrease in the cost of their rates.

It stated that Ofwat's statistics reveal that customers with United Utilities Water are likely to see an average price decrease of £16 on their bills, while customers with Northumbrian Water will potentially experience a £11 price rise.

Dame Yve Buckland, chair of the Consumer Council for Water, said: "One of the major issues emerging out of this price review is the ever increasing gap between bills for customers with water meters and those without."

The group recently advised homeowners to take precautions against burst pipes during the winter to prevent water damage, advising those who suspect a leak to contact their supplier quickly.
