Job satisfaction 'worse in the south'

Employees in the south of the UK are less happy in the workplace than those who live up north, it has been stated.

Research by Friends Provident revealed that 49 per cent of Londoners and 46 per cent of workers in the south-east are concerned about addressing their work-life balance, compared to 32 per cent of their counterparts in the north.

People working in the capital are also concerned about redundancy, with 27 per cent fearing their job may be at threat, compared to just 11 per cent who share this fear in the north-east.

Trevor Matthews, chief executive of Friends Provident, said that it is important for southern employers to take note of the research and make changes in the workplace.

In a separate study, the organisation also found that a battle for elite workers will lead companies to create better human resources departments in the future in order to get the best employees for them.
