Vodafone pledges more text money to charity

Vodafone have stated that it will increase the amount of money that is pledged through the network via text to charity.

The Charities Aid Foundation has come out in support of this pledge by the country's second biggest mobile phone provider, calling it "a very significant announcement".

Good causes will now receive 90 per cent of all monies that are donated to them through mobile phones on donations worth £1 or above from Vodafone customers.

Recent research has found that consumers think the most they should be charged on text donations is 10p.

John Low, chief executive of the charity organisation, said: "Last November O2, the UK's biggest mobile phone operator, became the first to reduce their rates and pass on 90 per cent of a donation."

Earlier this year, it was announced that around half of the UK population had donated to the Haiti disaster appeal, with a further two-thirds of the remaining members planning on doing so.
