Virgin Charity card donates 1% to customer's cause

A spokesman for the company referred to the willingness of people to provide financial aid to Haiti as the reason behind the new card, which allows customers to change their charitable cause as many times as they like.

Scott Mowbray, spokesman for Virgin Money, added: "If a customer can't decide which charity they want their cash back to go to, then our nominated charity will receive the funds."

The card pays initial cash back of 0.8 per cent to charities until customers claim for the Gift Aid option, which provides a 28 per cent tax relief for donors from the UK.

A recent survey found that more than half of the UK population has donated to the Haiti appeal, while nearly two-thirds of those remaining are hoping to make a contribution soon.
