Marks and Spencer home insurance covers garden thefts

David Wells, head of insurance for the company, observed that people invest a lot of time and money in their gardens but sometimes neglect to make sure they are secure.

He said: "Check that your home insurance policy covers property in your garden and shed. Remember that even if you do have insurance, unless you secure your shed, any claim may be invalid."

A survey conducted by Marks and Spencer revealed an ordinary garden shed contained an average of £888 of property, but a quarter of owners had not taken the proper measures to secure it.

Similarly, Aviva has also announced cover of up to £2,500 for contents insurance outside the home after it found that crime tends to increase at this time of year.
