Halifax banking unveils new investment tool

A new internet search engine will now allow investors to find companies according to their favourite brands.

The Halifax Share Search Engine allows investors to scan through over 2,000 companies listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) or Alternative Investment Market (AIM).

By typing in the name of their favourite brand or sector, investors can find the company behind the products.

For example, typing "Harry Potter" will bring up Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, while "fashion" will bring up companies ranging from New Look Group to Debenhams Plc.

Sue Concannon of the Halifax said: "We are committed to stripping away the sometimes scary images of share dealing, and this search engine is another step towards this."

She added: "Many investors are keen to buy into recognisable brands but they don't know how to go about it."

She believes the service will make the process of investing in brands easier.

As such, she concluded: "We are hoping it will also appeal to those who may not have previously considered the stock market as an investment option."
