Santander current accounts offer 5% interest rate

Helen Bierton, head of the bank's current accounts division, claimed money could be made with an account which provided a five per cent interest rate.

She said: "Santander and Alliance & Leicester are offering different accounts with a market-leading interest rate of five per cent interest which could earn them £125 in interest in the first year."

It was found by the bank that 40 million people in the UK were making cuts to their expenditure by buying second hand goods, in order to save money in the current economic climate.

Similarly, money.co.uk recently revealed that mums want cash for Easter instead of the traditional chocolate egg.

Rebecca Clarke, a young mother, commented that her family spent an average of £30 on Easter gifts but for this year she would be giving handmade presents to her children plus £10 each to invest in a savings account.
