Barclays Wealth re-introduces Emerging Markets Optimiser

The six-year investment repays capital at full maturity despite the performance of the iShares MSCI Emerging Market Index Fund, but if the fund is withdrawn before the end of the term investors will risk their capital.

Lisa Chaudhuri, vice president of the branch, said emerging markets were "highly volatile" and, as such, needed a product which could be protected.

She said: "By adjusting its exposure to the Index on a daily basis … investors can also rest assured that their capital will be returned in full at maturity, irrespective of the Index's performance."

This is the eighth re-issue of the product, which has outperformed the Index by eight per cent since it was first introduced in 2008.

Leading asset management firm Gartmore recently claimed that emerging markets have made a strong start to the year, but some companies are remaining cautious about the second half of 2010.
