LV= insurance study reveals rise in fake claims

More than 50 per cent of solicitors say there has been a rise in exaggerated cases during the last ten years, while nine in ten believe the 'no win, no fee' claims system is the reason for overestimated injuries.

Martin Milliner, technical claims director for the company, defined a genuine case as one where there is certainty that one party is to blame and he encouraged solicitors to "apply rigorous questioning" before any compensation is given.

He added: "Drivers who invent or exaggerate their injuries to make a claim not only break the law, but also push up the cost of car insurance premiums for all motorists."

Personal injury claims have boosted the standard car insurance premium from £200 to £300, according to the insurer.

However, it has been revealed by Axa in a new survey that young British drivers are less likely to make an insurance claim than their European counterparts.
