Santander travel insurance study shows Easter holiday price hike

The research found that families pay an average premium of 119 per cent when flying on March 28th from some airports, giving one expert cause to understand why some parents decide to take their children away during school.

Emma Roberts, director of Santander Cards, said she was not surprised that parents made their children absent, but added there were other ways to reduce the cost of a holiday.

She commented: "Holidaymakers should make sure they only spend on a credit card abroad that offers them fee-free foreign usage, such as the award-winning Santander Zero credit card."

Findings showed the worst affected were those travelling from Manchester Airport to Gran Canaria, paying £8,894 for flights and accommodation from March 28th, instead of £2,832 some weeks later.

Furthermore, the provider expects motorways will be congested by the bank holiday traffic during the transport strikes, when many people will want to travel across the country rather than pay to fly abroad.
