Santander Home Insurance brings 'peace of mind'

A Peace of Mind deal allows optional cover for accidental damage in the home that could be the result of a botched DIY job.

Miguel Sard, chief executive for the UK insurance branch of Santander, said it was traditional that such work should be attempted at this time of year, but reduced budgets and a lack of professional experience may prove more costly down the line.

He said: "While it might be understandable to tackle such things as landscaping the garden or constructing a kitchen unit … it is just not worth taking the risks. Get it done professionally."

A Santander survey found that one in five Brits will cause an average of £344 worth of damage when they next attempt home improvements, which yields a collective estimate of £331 million.

Another company report revealed recently that families travelling abroad during the Easter school holiday period will pay inflated prices.
