Sainsbury's credit card offers aimed at shoppers

The Nectar credit card provides a 12.9 per cent APR on purchases and balance transfers, plus double the Nectar points, while the second has a standard zero per cent APR, although each rate is only applicable in the first 12 months after the purchase.

Stuart McKeggie, head of Sainsbury's credit cards, reiterated that the products will encourage shoppers to purchase goods in the store as interest rates continue to go up.

He added: "We need to ensure that we continue to offer them exclusive deals that are extremely attractive. We are confident our new credit cards will be well received."

It was found by the supermarket that the typical credit card interest rate is currently 18.2 per cent, compared with a 16.3 per cent average recorded in 2008.

The firm also recently announced it would offer customers double Nectar points on their shopping for two years for those taking out a personal loan of between £7,500 and £14,999.
